Congratulations to the voters of SAD #23 for taking a stand against school consolidation. They took their time to study the pros and cons. They were not intimidated by penalties to be levied for voting against the plan.
I am concerned that the sister district, SAD #38, that shares its superintendent with SAD #23 was led down a different path when it voted in the Nov. election. John Backus has been quoted in local newspapers in support of consolidation for SAD #38 and not in support of consolidation for SAD #23. Both districts, for which Backus is Superintendent of, share similar tax burdens to be brought on by consolidating.
